Along with our weekly blog post this week the Gradguide team would like to share some exciting updates over the last few weeks. After seeing our biggest surge in signups over the weekend it forced us to rethink a few things as we look to scale operations going forward.

Current Status 🙋‍♂️

We set ourselves an ambitious goal of 50 new signups from the end of April to the end of May and managed to beat that comfortably with 68 new signups and counting on the platform over the last two weeks.

With that, we have had to quickly onboard new mentors to meet growing demand. We now have 15 mentors working in well-know tech companies such as Intercom, Square, Microsoft & Oracle to name a few.

We have been also working closely with companies to feed through candidates post-program. We have recently secured partnerships with five technology companies to support their grad hires & internships which we will announce publicly very soon.

Changes to the Application Process ✍️

Up until now, we have let anyone signup for Gradguide. However, with the massive increase in uptake as of late, we are now beginning to reach our bandwidth with our current network of mentors.

For this reason, we have altered our signup flow to an application process where students/grads need to be either accepted or referred into the program by current mentees.

However, we will try our best to help anyone who shows an interest in Gradguide by offering career guidance over live chat on our site and through our social media platforms.

Having said that, we will be keeping the program itself to a 50 student cohort at any given one time. This is to ensure we can continue to provide not only an outstanding but more importantly, consistent experience for everyone who comes through the Gradguide career accelerator.

Keeping a Broad Scope 🔭

We welcome students from any courses and backgrounds to join the Gradguide program. While college courses can be a good indicator of career interests and potential paths, they don’t dictate them.

We have learned a lot in recent months from dealing closely with lots of college students across Ireland, the UK, and France studying a wide range of different subjects.

Many times in our own careers we have come across a colleague who is smashing their quota every quarter and has never opened a business book in their lives.

Narrowing Our Focus 🎯

Put simply, the students we talk to can be split into two categories. Those who know what they want to do and those who don’t.

Those who know what they do want to do, have typically gravitated towards a small number of specific career paths. With this in mind, we are starting to pivot and focus our attention on what we know best and that is go-to-market (GTM) positions in particular — sales, marketing, customer support/success.

Consequently, we have built out different personas and tailored our four-pillar program to cover these specific career paths and have begun to recruit mentors to reflect that.

It is also important to leave room for those who aren’t sure what they want to do after college as this, unfortunately, makes up the majority!

As having once been in their position, we feel that we can still equip them with soft skills and a toolkit that will add real value for them going forward.
